Sprint 5 Mobile Game Development
Sprint 5 in the development of Meltdown has been an exhilarating ride with my teammates! I have added some exciting new features and fixed a bug that are sure to keep players on their toes and make sure they are having a full play through time while playing Meltdown. In this blog post, I will dive into the latest updates, focusing on the scrollable list of generators, the introduction of new disasters, random events, and shop prices.
Organized Generators: Aesthetic and Functional Upgrade
One of the primary objectives for Sprint 5 was to make the gameplay more engaging and visually appealing. To achieve this, I introduced a scrollable list of generators in the game interface. This not only enhances the aesthetics of the scene but also provides a more organized way for players to manage their power generation.
Previously, all the generators were displayed on the screen, cluttering the scene and making it challenging to track the progress of each one. With the scrollable list, players can easily navigate through their generators, making it a more streamlined and enjoyable experience. Now, your power grid will look much cleaner and more like a game, without the unnecessary visual noise.
New Disaster: The Upgrade Prevention Storm
Sprint 5 also marks the introduction of a new disaster - the "Upgrade Prevention Storm." This natural catastrophe will strike at random intervals and temporarily prevent players from upgrading any of their generators for five minutes.
The Upgrade Prevention Storm adds an exciting element of unpredictability and challenges players to adapt their strategy, keeping them engaged and on the edge of their seats. It's all about testing the players' resource management skills under the most adverse conditions!
Random Events and Improved Functionality
In the previous sprint, we introduced random events to spice up the gameplay. Now, we've added a crucial improvement to this feature: each random event has a set duration, ensuring that the chaos doesn't last indefinitely. This fix brings a balanced and fair element to the game due to the bug increasing your income every 15 seconds..
Additionally, we've incorporated a new random event where one of your generators can be reset to zero, adding even more uncertainty to the game. These random events keep players on their toes and challenge them to make strategic decisions to recover from unexpected setbacks, there is a good saying. “Minor setback, and major comebacks”.
Hydroelectric Dam Disaster: Unexpected Disaster
One of the most exciting additions to Sprint 5 is a disaster that's exclusively linked to the Hydroelectric Dam. If a player has purchased the dam, they'll face a unique challenge. This disaster will randomly reset a variable number of generators and, more significantly, prevent any upgrades to the Hydroelectric Dam during its occurrence.
This feature adds a layer of strategy for players who opt to invest in the Hydroelectric Dam, as they must be prepared to face more significant challenges in return for its substantial power generation benefits.
Pricing in the Shop: Player's Economy
To further enhance the player's experience, we've introduced pricing for all items in the in-game shop. Each generator, disaster defense tool, and upgrade now comes with a price tag. This addition introduces an economic aspect to the game, where players must manage their resources efficiently to progress and overcome disasters.
By assigning prices to in-game items, players are encouraged to strategize and prioritize their purchases, adding depth and a sense of progression to the Meltdown experience.
Conclusion
Sprint 5 has been an exciting journey, as we've polished the game to make it more visually appealing and introduced challenging new elements to keep players engaged. The scrollable list of generators, the Upgrade Prevention Storm, the revamped random events, and the Hydroelectric Dam disaster have all contributed to a richer and more dynamic gameplay experience. And with the introduction of shop prices, players now have to make thoughtful economic decisions to survive in the high-stakes world of Meltdown.
We can't wait for you to experience these new features in Meltdown, and we look forward to your feedback as we continue to refine and expand the game. Thank you for your support and stay tuned for more exciting updates in the future!
